In February, a quiet time of year for wedding photography, we teamed up with Sunny and Karolina from Iris Floral Design to do a photo shoot.
Iris is a small flower shop blossoming on picturesque Parliament Street in Kilkenny. Creativity and fantasy live in Iris, the two ingredients that create individuality and uniqueness. Their motto is “everything from flowers”. They can style your wedding, birthday or party in the style and mood that suits you.

“We at Iris love challenges… and now it’s your turn dear friends, we challenge you! Be Different! How to achieve it? Trust us! We are always up to date with fashion trends and we never repeat old designs, as nature has created so many unique flowers, we work on different ideas and projects. As the saying goes you have to be a little crazy to be a florist!!! The truth is that there is nothing wrong with being different and following your path.”
Sunny wanted to demonstrate her ideas for floral arches and bridal wedding bouquets. I love photographing flowers so I was really looking forward to this project.
Butler House kindly allowed us to use their rooms. The historic Georgian house is a stunning wedding venue in Kilkenny, somewhere we love to photograph as the light coming through the bay windows is beautiful, even on a dull day.

Karolina modelled for us, using her own wedding dress from Smart Brides in Portlaoise and Lynn from Streetlife Hair did a fabulous job on her wedding hairstyle.
Lorimat provided us with the beautiful wedding jewellery and hair piece from their vintage style Chicago range.

Andriana from Valley of Roses gave us some of her vintage look perfume bottles which complemented the style of Butler House and our blue colour scheme beautifully.

We started early in the morning but within a couple of hours Sunny had built this stunning floral arch using pampas grass and clematis branches. We had decided on a blue theme so she also used blue delphiniums, pampas grass, irises, quick sand roses, scabiosa, amaranthus, anthuriums and phalaenopsis (orchids).

John finished by taking Karolina outside into Butler House’s beautiful walled garden, even in February it is a stunning place for wedding photographs, although they didn’t stay out for too long as it was a bit cold!

If you are not holding your wedding in Butler House they do have a photography package which allows you to use the gardens for your wedding photography, something we would recommend as they have stunning views of Kilkenny Castle.
A huge thank you to everyone in Butler for your help and to everyone else who helped us with this wedding photo shoot:
